June 17, 1994: 20 Years Ago

It is also hard to believe it’s been twenty years since a white Ford Bronco, driven by Al Cowlings, carried O.J. Simpson in a strangely serene, low-speed police chase through two counties in California.  The image that day burned itself into our collective psyche. There were more books published about the O.J. Simpsons trial than about any other crime since Watergate.  Many of them are still available via our interlibrary loan system.

Do you remember that also on June 17, 1994, legendary golfer Arnold Palmer played his last round at the U.S. Open, the World Cup opened in Chicago, the Rangers celebrated winning the Stanley Cup, and the Knicks played game five of the NBA finals against the Houston Rockets? And lastly, Ken Griffey Jr. tied Babe Ruth for the most home runs hit before June 30.
