Gilligan-45 years

Just sit right back and remember it’s been forty-five years since a ship set sail on September 26, 1964. That ship was the S.S. Minnow and the show was “Gilligan’s Island”. It has been rerun more than any other series in TV history. The first episode was “Two on a Raft” and the next time you watch any of the early shows notice the flagpole in the harbor in the beginning sequence of the show. It is at half-staff, because the opening of the show was filmed the same day the pilot episode was, November 22, 1963. The pilot episode had different actors portraying Mary Ann, Ginger and the Professor’s characters and it explained how they landed on an uncharted desert isle but was not aired on television until 1992. This show was cancelled when it was a top show to make room for “Gunsmoke”. The library has all the seasons of “Gilligan’s Island” as well as a large collection of books and videos on shipwrecks and survival. Celebrate the 45th Anniversary by checking out Mary Ann’s Cookbook and making her Coconut Cream Pie.
