Jackie O: 20 Years Ago
Twenty
years ago on May 19, 1994, two and a half months before her 65th
birthday, one of the most popular first ladies, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis,
died in her sleep. She was one of the most famous and admired women in the
world. Many of us remember the strength and courage that she possessed during
that stark November so many years ago. That night in May 1994, her son John
Kennedy Jr. announced her death with the following: “My mother died surrounded
by her friends and her family and her books, and the people and things that she
loved. She did it in her own way, and on her own terms, and we all feel lucky
for that.” Our collection includes many
books about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and the Kennedy family, including her
1962 video tour of the White House in which she shows off a newly redecorated
White House.
