Indian Agency Program
The Friends of the Reedsburg Library will be hosting a program on Thursday, November 15th at 7 PM on one of Portage’s most historic houses. Indian Agency House, built in 1832, is one of the oldest homes in Wisconsin and has been in the midst of a major restoration and stabilization project. Join us as Executive Director Destinee Udelhoven presents a visual look at “new beginnings and fresh perspectives” of this building. The house was originally constructed by the United States Government as a residence for the Indian Agent to the Ho-Chuck people. The young couple’s experiences of Portage life in 1832-1834 are the basis for the book “Wau-Bun” by Juliette Kinzie, who was the grandmother of the founder of the Girl Scouts of America.
