Cookbooks

The most popular books being checked out of America’s libraries are cookbooks which lately has overtaken health and medicine titles. Library Journal magazine reports “67% of respondent libraries have listed cookbooks more than any other category of nonfiction circulation. This section at our library also circulates very well. Among the top circulators right now are “The $5 dinner mom cookbook” by Erin Chase and “Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics” by Ina Garten and “Pioneer Woman Cooks” by Ree Drummond. What is leading to the interest is the economy and people’s desire to cook meals at home instead of going out; as well as the popularity of cooking shows. We have many of the cooking shows (Paula Deen, Rachael Ray, Alton Brown, Julia Child) on DVD. Also we are adding books in special diets (gluten free, vegan) as more patrons are asking for that topic.
