Battle of the Bulge

Sixty-five years ago on Dec 16, 1944, the German Army was in retreat and Allied forces were on German soil. But a surprise German offensive was launched in Belgian Ardennes Forest. This became the Battle of the Bulge. For an incisive portrait of this battle and the rest of the war forward try “No Less than Victory” by Jeff Shaara. He is one of the grand masters of military fiction. This book concludes the epic tale of the war in Europe from the Battle of the Bulge through the German surrender. Another good read on this subject is Alex Kershaw’s epic story of the most decorated platoon during this battle, “The Longest Winter”. The narrative moves from the GIs’ combat experience at the Bulge to their POW experience until the closing days of the war. This is a good read for observing the sixtieth anniversary of the Bulge.
