Berlin Wall

On November 9, 1989 the Berlin Wall opened after twenty-eight years. A symbol of the Cold War, it was the border between East Germany and West Germany. Its opening began reunification of the two Germanys by the summer of 1990 and the end of the Cold War. The radio broadcast of this historical moment is included in “We Interrupt This Broadcast” by Joe Garner. This book also includes many historic broadcasts. A new book out this fall is by W.R. Smvser’s “Kennedy and the Berlin Wall”. It tells the story of the Berlin Crisis and the authors experience as a diplomat in Germany during the period. “Tear Down This Wall” by Romesh Ratnesar, provides an account of President Reagan’s defining moment, his speech and his relationship with Gorbachev. Also check out our display of books and videos on the Cold War.
