Virginia Lee Burton

Virginia Lee Burton was a talented author of some of most enduring books ever written for children. She was the winner of the 1942 Caldecott Medal for “The Little House”. (Available in LINKcat.) Burton wrote and illustrated books that include heroes and happy endings, lively illustrations and a dash of nostalgia. Some of her stories concern technological change and often bring inanimate objects to life: the characters are apt to be buildings or machines. Like some of our favorites “Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel” and “Choo-Choo”.
