Highest Tsunami in Recorded History- 50 Years Ago

July 9, 1958- Earthquake registering at 8.3 on the Richter scale caused a massive landslide at the head of Lituya Bay, AK which in turn created a tsunami of 1,700 feet- higher than the Sears Tower in Chicago. A 300-foot wave immediately followed, scouring bare about four to five square miles of land on both sides of the bay. Of three boats anchored at this remote spot, one was sunk with the loss of two lives, miraculously the other two boats with their passengers survived the powerful waves.
