D-Day

Seventy years ago on June 6, 1944, 170,000 men of the Allied forces pulled off the largest land invasion of World War Two. They hit the beaches on the shores of Normandy, France. This was the turning point of the war.  Author Douglas Brinkley has a book on D-Day that is the story told through the experiences of those who were there. "Voices of Valor" is a book of memories, some tragic, some humorous, and all of them imbued with human drama. This book includes two audio CDs of stories of the fighting men who were the voices of valor. Infantryman Al Littke of the 16th Regiment Combat team, for example, watched the naval bombardment of Omaha Beach as he was waiting in a boat to join the landing. "With all the fire power, it should be a cinch,” he recalled to himself. "I thought I was untouchable.” To learn more about World War Two, visit the library.
