Last week
the news of Annette Funicello’s death was startling, as millions of us came
home from school every day to watch the “The Mickey Mouse Club”. One of the most popular Mouseketeers, Funicello
was also featured in Disney films such as “The Shaggy Dog”, “Babes in Toyland”
and “The Monkey’s Uncle”. We have many of them, including her 1994
autobiography “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes”. The library has all twenty
episodes of “The Mickey Mouse Club” for you to watch and enjoy Annette
Funicello. Nostalgia crazed baby boomers
will love to remember the Nancy Drew-like “Annette Mysteries” series of books,
which we have. We also have the Beach Party Movies with Frankie Avalon
including the 1987 “Back to the Beach”, which is my favorite. This movie is
filled with nostalgia, with several pop-culture icons appearing in the film. It
was Annette’s final appearance onscreen.
