Second Saturday Program & READ Dog

Reedsburg Public Library starts a new literacy program at
Second Saturday: Family Time @ Your Library: Saturday, September 14th

1,000 Books before Kindergarten is a free program that encourages families to read to their children before they enter school. The goal of reading 1,000 books is one of the best ways to develop important pre-reading skills that provide a solid reading foundation, a key to school and learning success.

Through funding from the Growing Wisconsin Readers early literacy initiative and the Friends of the Reedsburg Public Library, families with children from birth to 5 years old will receive a 1,000 Books before Kindergarten folder to keep track of the books that they read.

The kick-off for the program is on Saturday, September 14th from 10-11am in the Library’s Community Room.  In addition to receiving their 1,000 Books before Kindergarten packets, families can participate in a variety of alphabet based games and activities.

Ryder, a Reading Education Assistance Dog(R.E.A.D)
is also scheduled to listen to children read in the Library’s Storytime room beginning at 10am on Saturday, September 14th.
