On December 10, 1926, the phrase “Grand Ole Opry” was first uttered on-air. That night eighty-five years ago, “Barn Dance” changed from being a program devoted to the classics, to “Grand Ole Opry” where they presented nothing but realism, to down-to-earth country music. To learn more about this American icon story, try Colin Escott’s book “Grand Ole Opry” or Robert Oermann’s “Behind the Grand Ole Opry Curtain”. Also in our music collection is the CD “Grand Ole Opry Christmas Classics”, featuring instrumental versions of a dozen timeless favorites.
