READ Dog Saturday

Kooper returns to the Reedsburg Public Library
Saturday, October 20th 10-11AM

Kooper is a Delta Certified Therapy Dog that is also trained as a Reading Education Assistance Dog. R.E.A.D. is the first literacy program in the country to use therapy animals as reading companions for children. This unique method provides children an opportunity to improve their reading skills in a comfortable environment by reading aloud to dogs.

When Kooper is listening, a child’s dread of reading is replaced by eager anticipation, and learning occurs. Kooper’s owner, Laura Kuchta, is a skilled facilitator and provides support while the child receives supervised reading practice to build vocabulary, increase understanding of the material and gain fluency as a reader.
Kooper will be in the Reedsburg Public Library’s Storytime Room on Saturday, October 20th from 10-11am. Books can be brought from home or chosen from the shelves at the Library.

Additional information about the R.E.A.D. Dog program can be found at www.dogsoncall.org and information about all upcoming programs at the Reedsburg Public Library can be found at www.reedsburglibrary.org or by calling the Library at 768-READ(7323).
