Newbery and Caldecott Winners
Visiting the library while growing up, I remember seeing books in the children’s area with silver and gold Newbery and Caldecott Medals on them. I knew those books were extra special, awarded by the American Library Association as being the best of the best in written (Newbery) and illustrated (Caldecott) children’s books. In January, the 2012 book winners were released. “Dead End in Norvelt” by Jack Gantos, won the 2011 Newbery medal. Honors also go to “Breaking Stalin’s Nose” by Eugene Yelchin and “Inside Out and Back Again” by Thanhha Lai. The Caldecott Award for the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children went to “A Ball for Daisy” by Chris Raschka. The Theodor Seuss Geisel 2012 award winning book is “Tales for Very Picky Eaters” by John Schneider. Each of the award winning books is available here at the library as well as many of the past winners.
