Sterling North- Birth Anniversary
Born at Edgerton, Wisconsin, Sterling North graduated from the University of Chicago and had a successful career as a journalist. His novel So Dear to My Heart, published in 1947, was an enormous success and was made into a feature film by Walt Disney in 1949. Rascal, an autobiographical story about raising a pet raccoon, was a Newbery Honor Book in 1964 and was also made into a Disney film in 1969. North died Dec 21, 1974, at Morristown, NJ.
