Mickey Mantle

One of the greatest players in baseball history would have been eighty on October 20th. Mickey Mantle was born October 20, 1931 and played his entire 18-year career for the New York Yankees as an outfielder and first baseman. He won 3 MVPs and appeared in 12 World Series, winning seven of them. Fifty-years ago he was part of the chase to break Babe Ruth’s record for the most home runs in a season. His teammate Roger Maris hit the record 61 on October 1st against the Boston Red Sox. We have the new book “1961” by Phil Pepe which is an inside story of the Maris-Mantle home run chase. Pepe was a young sportswriter for the New York World-Telegram & Sun and this book is his firsthand account of that historic home run challenge. We also have the HBO documentary “Mantle” as well other books and videos about the New York Yankees.
