On August 13, 1961 fifty years ago in the early morning, the East German government closed the border between the east and west sectors of Berlin with barbed wire fence to discourage further population movement to the west. The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War till 1989 when it opened after twenty-eight years. The radio broadcast of this historical moment is included in “We Interrupt This Broadcast” by Joe Garner. This book also includes many other historic broadcasts. W.R. Smvser’s “Kennedy and the Berlin Wall”, tells the story of the Berlin Crisis and the authors experience as a diplomat in Germany during the period. “Tear Down This Wall” by Romesh Ratnesar, provides an account of President Reagan’s defining moment, his speech and his relationship with Gorbachev.
