Beverly Cleary is one of America’s most successful living authors. She has written 39 beloved books since 1950. She was born April 12th, ninety-five years ago in a small Oregon community without a library. Her mother arranged with the State Library to have books sent there and acted as librarian in a lodge room over the bank. There Beverly learned to love books, and later became a children’s librarian. She was the author of classics like “Mouse and a Motorcycle, Runway Ralph, Ramona” and many others. Because of her classic work she has received many awards, including the Laura Ingalls Wilder award for children’s literature. If you like her books, you might want to read more about her in her own memoirs, “The Girl from Yamhill” and “My Own Two Feet”. Happy 95th Birthday Beverly Cleary!
