Did you know fifty years ago Elvis Presley gave one of his only concerts of the sixties as a benefit in Hawaii? The March 25, 1961 concert was used to kick-start the struggling building campaign for the USS Arizona Memorial whose fundraising efforts were stalled at the time. The concert featured Elvis and an all-star lineup of entertainers and raised just over $54,000 toward the $500,000 goal for the memorial. Because of the interest this concert generated many public and private donations were made. The memorial was dedicated in 1962. We have books and videos on the sunken battleship and the memorial, which is dedicated to remembering all those who lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.
