Medal of Freedom

Last week President Obama awarded the Medal of Freedom to fifteen individuals; this is the highest honor that any person can receive, unless they serve in the military, from the government. One of the individuals was ninety-year old hall of famer Stan (The Man) Musial. The St. Louis Cardinals legend ranked at or is near the top of baseball’s all time lists in almost every batting category. He won seven National League batting tiles and three MVPs. Stan Musial spent 22 seasons with the Cardinals leading them to three World Series titles. We have the new book “Stan Musial: baseball’s perfect knight”. This book is by the St.Louis Post-Dispatch and tells his story from childhood to post-baseball through archival photos. Among the other winners were George H.W. Bush, Jean Kennedy Smith, Maya Angelou, Warren Buffett, Congressman John Lewis, John H. Adams, and Yo-Yo Ma. For the full list you can search the web, here at the library or from your home.
