On Feb 7, 1867 in the big woods of northwestern Wisconsin near Pepin, Laura Ingalls Wilder was born. The author of Little House on the Prairie and its sequels recalled her childhood across the western plains of the United States. In 2009 the Wisconsin State Historical Society published on their website more than a dozen original letters written during the Civil War by relatives of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
