Dec 23, 1975: The Congress of the US passed Public Law 94-168 known as the Metric Conversion Act of 1975. This act declares that the SI will be this country's basic system of measurement and establishes the US Metric Board, which is responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of the nation's voluntary conversion to SI.
