Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

Our evening book group is Tuesday, November 23 at 6:30 pm. We will be discussing the UW-Go Big Read 2010 book “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot. Skloot recounts the little-known story of the origin of the “HeLa” cells that have directly aided many advances in modern medicine. This is the story of Henrietta Lacks, the African-American cancer patient who was the unwitting donor of the cells. The discussion will provoke a range of issues related to bioethics and diversity. A UW –Madison graduate student will be here to lead the discussion. Copies of the book are still available here at the library for checkout.
