Etch-a-Sketch Introduced 50

July 12, 1960: In 1958, a French garage mechanic named Arthur Granjean developed a drawing toy he called the Magic Screen. In 1959 he exhibited his toy at a toy fair at Nuremberg, West Germany, where it was seen by a representative of the Ohio Art Company, a toy company at Bryan, OH. The rights were purchased and the product was renamed and released in 1960. More than 100 million have been sold.
