50 Years - Elvis army return/Sinatra Special

Fifty-years ago this March, Elvis Presley returned to the United States and was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of sergeant on March 5. His missing years are told in Andreas Schroer book “Private Presley” and in fellow soldier Rex Mansfield’s “Sergeant Presley”, which are both available in our collection. Elvis would not return to television till May 12, 1960 when he appeared as a guest on Frank Sinatra Timex Special. This special is known as “Welcome Home Elvis” taped in late March 1960. Fifty years later you can watch this on DVD, as we have it in our collection. The original broadcast drew an enormous viewer ship. The TV special featured Sammy Davis Jr, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford and Nancy Sinatra. Elvis performed “Fame and Fortune” and “Stuck on You” which were the two sides of his first post-Army single. He also performed a duet with Sinatra. As Elvis performed Sinatra’s classic “Witchcraft”, Frank performed the Elvis classic “Love Me Tender”. It is still great to watch 50 years later.
