Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt led an active and independent life and was the first wife of a president to give her own news conference in the White House. Widely known throughout the world, she was known as the “first lady of the world”. The wife of Franklin Roosevelt was born October 11, 1884 (125 years ago) in New York City. Many books have been written on Eleanor and her husband, but one our newest is written by their grandchild Curtis Roosevelt “Too Close to the Sun: Growing up in the Shadow of my Grandparents, Franklin and Eleanor”. He reflects on his formative years of visiting the White House through the time of his family divorce. Did you know that her uncle President Theodore Roosevelt walked Eleanor Roosevelt down the aisle at her wedding?
