May 27, 1911 was the day that Hubert Horatio Humphrey was born in Wallace, South Dakota.
He served as 38th Vice President and ran for president 40 years ago in 1968 and lost narrowly to Richard Nixon. Humphrey died at Waverly, Minnesota in 1978.
